This was quite a chase since here the grebe is in the Suisun Bay, and then took off underwater for the estuary. Since this was my first Western Grebe, I had no idea they could swim 100 yards or more underwater! And then some photo nut who thought he was a professional pushed me out of the way with his gun stock 30 pound bazooka and told me it was HIS bird! And that's the truth. Read about it in the blog.

Question: Do grebes belong under "Shorebirds?" I thought about "Waterfowl," but then I'd have a huge undertaking. I prefer things that are already undertaken. When I go professional and get an attitude, I just might do that. But thanks for the comments, Peeter. When I retire in 2012, I'll have more time to classify.

Ethan Winning > That's No Gull!

Here's the story. I was just coming up to The Pond and I saw a gull in the distance. He was circling the 1 mile perimeter and as he neared the end where I was at, he hovered like ... like a tern or a kite ... and then he dove. And I says to myself, I says, "That's no gull!" And I took this shot about a minute later...and then another 20, three of which follow. And, btw, I've never seen one so far inland no had the birder who was with me.

Not bad for a Pan and Shoot. Better still since we don't get many terns on our "inland" waterways.
