Until I get a couple in flight (written in 2009), this may be the quietest gallery, but once I find the right time, flower, and possibility, I'm not giving up. And here's something to think about: male hummers like the highest point on a tree for a lookout. What was within the range of my P&S last year is now 12 feet further away. Not fair.

Anna's Hummingbird

Probably my PRIZE photo, a once-in-a-lifetime shot with a P&S. Through two branches of the Salvia at 20 feet. Three weeks of watching and waiting, and one shot so I give myself points for degree of difficulty.

Anna's Hummingbird

There's nothing like a little luck. This female just happened by a tree I was happening by at the same time. Amazing what timing can do for you. Oh, lesson #27 for the SX40 belongees: keep the camera on, full zoom, and without the power saving, and carry a spare battery.
Male Anna's Hummingbird

The first hummer I've caught in full sun.
Nyahhhh!
