Jays and Redwings are related, and they're beautiful in their own way. Crows and ravens are just plain funny at times, but elusive. In two years, I've gotten one good photo of each. The redwing blackbirds you'll see, by the way, are mostly a subspecies bi-colored living in the San Francisco Bay Area. I've found flocks in fields, by the ocean picking algae off rocks, and in my back yard. As ubiquitous as they are, it's awfully tough getting a shot with the males' epaulets flashing.
Almost!
On this particular field day, I took 188 pictures. I kept nine, four of those of wildflowers. One day I'm going to figure out which way the redwing - or other bird - is going to take off. Taken with the S3IS which is actually faster than my SX10, but all my point-and-shoots are sooooo slow compared to my SLRs. Put the fun back into your frustration.
